EVENTS UNTOLD SERIES: THE POWER OF INVISIBILITY: Chapter 2 A Walking Nightmare (part 1)

The road was coated with small stones and different kinds of rock, making the car a rocking cradle , and me, the baby .But this time, I wouldn’t be able to be  rocked to sleep.  I  felt danger ahead.  And the worst,  I feel something near , too cunning it couldn’t be outwit and outrun,..destiny herself. I got my mini TV out of my bag to watch and to forget about my weariness.  I looked at Nickelodeon, the cartoons was about a boy who is struggling to change his destiny, so I changed it. The other was a movie , about a boy trying to outrun his girlfriend, but sadly, she was too smart, making it hard for him to escape. Not helping, I thought, then shut the TV down. I looked out the window, then I stared in awe at the high gate and the countless buildings  inside . Mom parked her car in a vacant lot with the others. To my excitement,  I started to run to one of the tall buildings, but mom pulled my collar, telling me to wait and calling me a child once again. She brought her bag and then handed me her purse.”Get 3 dollars.” Mom commanded as she dug her hand through her bag, looking for something important.”For what?” I asked. “Just get,you child!” Mom scolded me. I did what she said quickly, thinking of the last thing I might see on Earth, my own mom’s fist.  I showed her the 3 dollars, then she said,” Buy something worth buying in the mall, but stay close.”  She said, gesturing me to hold her hand as usual. Whenever mom did it, a picture would always flash in my mind, a 4 yr.old boy crying for his mom, sitting on the cold floor of a mall with nothing to do. I tried getting that memory out of my mind then followed mom as she entered the building  at the right of the first. I looked around , seeing  bookshops with rare and interesting books. There were also toy stores  that children would really love.Suddenly,I felt something hard I just stepped on.I looked down, seeing a robot, just as big as my arm saying ,” It’s a sale today and I’m just worth a million dollars” It said ,flashing a sad look.”I’m sorry I can’t.”I answered, with a low and a sad tone. I pitied it. Then suddenly I heard it say the same dialog again. I turned, seeing another person’s foot on it, it was just saying the same dialog all over again. I was turned off, it was just doing the same thing all over again whenever anyone would pass by.

Mom pulled me around the mall, telling me to hurry , reminding me again and again about her appointment.  She looked at her watch and ran too fast, pulling me like a dog tied up on a leash. Mom isn’t like this, her attitude just..changed. I didn’t  notice her stop, I continued running so fast I couldn’t control myself. To stop, I had nothing left in my mind but a wise regrettable option. I hit a man with his back facing me.  It worked.I was able to stop! I was in a sitting position on the floor as the man in a black, hooded cloak stared at me. He was wearing a white mask , its eyes focused on me . I wasn’t able to move , while at the corner of my eye, I saw mom looking worriedly at me in a distance. Those 2 dark eyes would never settle me down. But the strangest thing happened.I stood up and looked around me. All people were running away from me and shouting in horror. While mom,  stayed where she was and for the first time, I  saw her cry wildly  just infront of me , kneeling on the marble floor. I shouted at mom but she was too busy crying to notice  me. I looked at the man in white mask, he was gone. I stayed in the mall until nighttime trying to get attention. But then, mom was gone. The only people who were left in the mall were the FBI and some other detectives.Investigating a crime I didn’t even notice.

I went out the wide park just outside the mall. I sat, feeling lonely and a little puzzled about my life.I looked up the dark night sky,the moon was nearer than ever.It appeared to get nearer until my eyelids felt heavier than ever, then I found myself asleep. I woke up, finding myself in a different scene.I was in the most beautiful garden ever . I felt like I wanted to stay in it forever, because of its beauty. Wild, colorful flowers grew everywhere.Long grass up to my waist sprouted.I was so excited to see other places and roll down hill, until a voice of a woman shouted, “No!You must wake up,This can’t be!Wake up!” I opened my eyes drowsily, then scanned the whole place . I was still in the park, and it was morning. Many papers were found everywhere in the park, I looked at one curiously  as one drifted effortlessly to my hand. There was my picture, one word was typed caps lock on the paper,  MISSING. A rustle was heard from behind me. I hid behind a thorny plant, then scanned the park for the approacher . I spotted a man in white mask and black hooded cloak. He dumped something on the opposite end of the park, then he stared straight into my eyes. He removed his mask then I saw him, a young man, sadness in his eyes. When he left , I looked at the thing he dumped then my heart tightened ,..It was my body. I didn’t pray for vengeance,  I know his situation was worse than mine.I turned then started my life,of loneliness and sadness, for eternity.

EVENTS UNTOLD SERIES: THE POWER OF INVISIBILITY: Chapter 1 Pieces of the Road Ahead (part 2)

Mom went back to the front seat, without using the car door. She turned her head in every direction, looking for the car keys. I knew Mom as a brave and strong woman. She can be scary if she wants to, but most of the time, she is quiet and kind. She is an engineer, and won’t let anyone see any sign of weakness. But she too has problems. She would run to an isolated place and there she would cry her eyes out. Only one thing was on my mind–mom isn’t herself today. It’s just…sad. “Mom, the key is in your hand,” I answered in a low tone.”Oh,” She said, grabbing the key quickly then starting the car. I looked out the window, watching places go past. I said a silent goodbye to our neighborhood as the car left. We passed by small huts and vendors who were producing their products like fish, that were still struggling to get out of the vendor’s hands, and mini statues with creepy looks and many more. One of the mini statues, the tallest, seemed to be looking at me as the car went past. My eyelids seemed heavy. I struggled to keep them open. I didn’t want to sleep with a creepy statue as the last thing on my mind, but my eyes betrayed me. After a while, I opened them , then looked around me. I was in a dark hall, my face was pressed on the cold floor. Obsidian dark. “Mom,” I called out. Nothing. From the other end of the hall, a green light appeared. It was too bright it almost blinded me. Mouths muttered from around me at the same time. Different people with different voices…the whispers of the dead. I tried getting up, while an unseen force pushed me down. I struggled, with my heart beating wildly. “A penny”, a voice said in the dark. I woke with a start. An old man’s nose was pressed flat on the car window, staring at me. “Just a penny.” He said, knocking on the glass, smiling. We were caught in a heavy traffic in the highway, several cars beeping every minute. I opened the window to give the poor beggar some food, but Mom stopped me, which was unusual. She used to be kind to beggars. As the traffic cleared, I gave the beggar a sorry look as the car moved slowly away, his eyes following me as the car brought me a little farther. He whispered something that was carried away by the wind, but I already heard enough– “Don’t go.” Nothing more was left in my head but those two words. Instead of being a coward and running, leaving mom alone in the car, I slept it off. Then my dream continued. I was back in the dark hall, I fought the force pushing me down, which was nothing but thin air. The green light was getting intensely brighter. Then all of a sudden, I heard a scream. It was Mom’s. I woke up, seeing Mom outside the car. She was shouting in frustration at her cellphone, trying to find a spot for better reception. I tried to get to her but I was stuck in place, like I was in my dream. I shouted and did my best to get out of my seat. But then I recalled ,…I was wearing a seatbelt. I removed it then got out of the car. We were parked along an isolated road. The road was cemented while an endless sea of dried grass covered the sides of the road “So we’re stuck,”I said, looking at mom. She didn’t answer. I tried to open the front compartment but it was searing hot. I looked on the opposite end of the road and then spotted a jogger. He wore a thin black shirt and blue denim pants. He had fair skin, muscular , and wore thick black shades that looking at his eyes would almost be impossible. He went near mom then asked her something I didn’t hear. Then he headed to the front compartment, and started touching every machine inside, as if studying it. While he worked, he asked me questions. But I didn’t answer.”Hey kid, can you talk?”He asked.”I just don’t talk to strangers.”I answered back. The stranger grinned, making him look more scarier. I hid behind mom in terror. Out of the silence, mom’s cellphone no.2 ringed from inside the car. She went inside the car to get it, leaving me alone with the jogger. She was in the car for a longer 15 minutes. She only had 3 things to do. One, get it, 2, unlock it and3, answer the call.”Kid, 3 tests may also be hard, they may send you sprawling on the white sand , crying for your mommy.”He said, like he was reading my mind. Mom got out of the car at last. As the jogger stood up from his work, the engine roared. The jogger’s expression from happy turned to sad, as he whispered something carried by the wind. What was that? Was it nun? I thought. The jogger stared daggers with me, like he was just offended. My mom thanked him , then we entered the car once again. I looked back and saw the jogger, smiling at me, as the car raced with the wind . And in a blink of an eye, he was gone.Gee,he is fast. After that, it seemed like I wouldn’t be able to sleep forever. The jogger’s voice echoed in my head,”3 tests may also be hard kid, they may lead you sprawling on the white sand, crying for your mommy.”I felt like I was meant to head this road, but at the end of this road is something. Something that would change my life forever.

“Mom,why do I have to come?”I asked, irritably.”Gian, you just have to.”Mom answered for the 20th time.”What kind of explanation is that?”I asked her for the tenth time.Mom didn’t answer, she just continued filling the backseat with unnecessary things with her shaky hands, like my favorite car when I was 5, my sisters dresses, and…”MEOW!!!” Our cat Bob,came near, wiping its soft fur on mom’s leg, expecting a treat or something better.Mom carried it to, trying to load its fat, furry body into the back compartment.”MEOW!”It cried like it was oblivion.”Mom!Your hurting Bob!”I said in alert, doing my best to free his fat body out of the small opening.Miraculously, I did.Bob jumped off my arms in terror. From his eyes,I knew that I would never see him again.Poor thing.”Oh”, mom said, smiling awkwardly, realizing what she has done.Mom blinked her eyes for 15 times, looking at the things in the back compartment, she stared at it blankly for 30 minutes.”Gian!Put this things back, they are not needed for this journey, we are just going to the mall, you child!”Mom said as she reached for the car door, ready to start the car.”Wait mom,” I blurted out, “How about Anne? There is no one to watch over her.” I said .”Oh, Anne, your little sister? You mean, THE ANNE? Your father is there to take good care of her.” She answered. “Mom, why should I come again?” I asked.Mom suddenly froze, staying in the same position.”It’s just a feeling.” Mom told me.”You mean a whisper?” I asked , just to scare her. From her face I knew that my plan worked, but mom ignored everything then opened the car door. While I was thinking of other excuses, mom said,” And Gian, stop looking for other more excuses.” She said, like she was reading my mind from the very start. She looked straight into my eyes, and I looked at hers. For a moment, her iris was just Mocha brown, but then it turned to black, the kind of black I could not explain. I blinked my eyes two times, then saw mom in the car already.Just an illusion, I thought to myself.” Mom why should I come?” I asked again. This time, she didn’t answer. I rolled my eyes then muttered, “Moms.” I opened the car door, leading to the backseat , sat on the soft seat, then put on my seatbelt . I looked out the window, expecting to see places to pass by before my eyes. Five minutes passed, then another five minutes. I looked at mom again, with a boiling head. Mom was just in her place, like she was stuck in the same position forever.”Mom?”I asked worriedly, trying to take a peek and see her face. I went nearer . Mom suddenly screamed then without looking at me,she moved her arm backwards then punched me with her knuckles, throwing me back to my seat.I opened my eyes, mom’s seat was empty. She was already beside me!I covered my face and closed my eyes,to protect my face from another punch.”Gian I’m sorry, I was just frightened. Are you hurt?” Mom asked me, worried.I removed my two hands from my face, ”Yes I’m okay,” I answered.
